Megan Lin

Megan Lin was born in Peoria, IL, and moved multiple times before ending up in Portland, Oregon. In her journey through various cities, Megan noticed such differences as road widths but also school textbook wear and tear. From a young age, she started to question why a place should define available opportunities and hardships, especially for immigrant families like hers. For her undergraduate studies, Megan decided to return to her first major city, Chicago, where her family sought immigration lawyers. Her interests and experiences inspired her to study Asian languages and cultures and sociology at Northwestern University. During her time thus far as an undergraduate, Megan became a tutor at Sheridan Correctional Center, One Book fellow for Crying in H-Mart, performer for NU K-Dance and Refresh Dance Crew, transportation committee facilitator and budget delegate for Participatory Budgeting Evanston, and club president for NU Liberty in North Korea and the Undergraduate Prison Education Program. Megan now plans to pursue research that combines critical urban theory with post-colonial theory to interrogate the role of global cities and urban inequity within broader capitalist systems.
