Psychology major headed back to Bay Area for government fellowship

The Office of Fellowships is pleased to announce that Jamila Wilson (WCAS ’21) has been chosen for the 2021–2022 cohort of the San Francisco Fellows program! Next year, Jamila will work in city government in San Francisco.

Photo of Jamila WilsonJamila is a 2021 graduate from San Francisco, California, who majored in psychology and minored in anthropology. During her time at Northwestern, Jamila was an athletic training aide, working with varsity athletes and athletic training staff to gain hands-on health care experience. With a passion for education and youth development, Jamila also worked as an educator in Chicago through Peer Health Exchange, a national program that focuses on positive health education for youth in public schools. Outside of class, Jamila was a member of the Northwestern women’s club soccer team for four years. She spent her junior fall quarter abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where, in addition to her coursework, she interned for Silvia Haskler Leadership & Language Solutions, developing English language learning workshops for business professionals.

With her background in education and community-based training, Jamila is overjoyed to be serving her hometown and to able to work on solutions to the issues facing her community. She is particularly excited to work on engaging youth in various pockets of San Francisco. After her time with San Francisco Fellows, Jamila plans to continue her commitment to youth development and public service.

San Francisco Fellows LogoThe mission of the San Francisco Fellows program is to foster community stewardship by preparing recent college graduates and young professionals for roles in public service and administration. The fellows program is a unique opportunity to learn about public administration in local government while working full-time as a city employee. Competitively selected applicants will join a cohort of up to twenty fellows for a yearlong experience.

Jamila is the first Wildcat chosen for the program in several years.
