Latest Findlay Fellowship winner to earn master's degree in Scotland
The Office of Fellowships is excited to announce that Hannah Christensen (WCAS ’24) has been chosen as the 2024 recipient of the Findlay Fellowship! Next year, Hannah will travel to Scotland to earn a master’s degree at the University of St. Andrews.
In addition to her majors in neuroscience and music and a minor in French, Hannah also completed Middlebury College’s French immersion program with support from the Office of Undergraduate Research’s Undergraduate Language Grant. Hannah studied abroad in Arles, France, and conducted research in multiple laboratories. These activities earned Hannah a number of different honors: selection as a student ambassador for the Global Learning Office; a Fletcher Award as a Rising Undergraduate Research Star; an Outstanding Service Award for her tutoring in the Department of French and Italian; and election to Phi Beta Kappa.
Outside of her sterling academic record, Hannah’s career as a percussionist in the Wildcat Marching Band and other university ensembles culminated in her election as drumline section leader and treasured opportunities to play at the 2022 Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland, and the 2023 Las Vegas Bowl.
Hannah will study neuroscience at St. Andrews, where she will also hold a Global Merit Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic and leadership record as well as Sigma Alpha Iota’s Evanston Alumnae Collegiate Scholarship for her excellence as a scholar, musician, and community member.
The Findlay Fellowship provides financial support to a recent Northwestern undergraduate who is pursuing graduate study in the United Kingdom. The fellowship was created through a generous gift from Northwestern trustee Cameron Findlay and his wife, Amy Scalera Findlay.
Cam Findlay is an attorney and former senior US government official, who obtained his master’s degree at the University of Oxford after graduating from Northwestern. He went on to earn a law degree from Harvard Law School, where he and Amy were classmates.
Hannah is the third recipient of the Findlay Fellowship. Last year, Madeline Brown (WCAS ’23) won the award and attended the University of Oxford. Abigail Roston (WCAS ’22) was the first recipient of the award and also studied at the University of Oxford.
