Journalism major lands fellowship to study government
The Office of Fellowships is thrilled to announce that Eveyln Heath (Medill ’27) has been chosen for the 2025–2026 cohort of the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) At-Large Fellowship! Evelyn will participate in monthly events, attend a conference in Washington, DC, and produce an original research paper through the program.
A resident of Boca Raton, Florida, Evelyn is studying journalism at Northwestern University. Outside of her coursework, Evelyn engages in various extracurricular activities that combine her passion for writing, leadership, and advocacy. On NU’s campus, she is involved in several student organizations: Mock Trial, which practices litigation skills; Phi Alpha Delta, a pre-law fraternity for which she is vice president; the Daily Northwestern; and the Undergraduate Prison Education Partnership (UPEP), which brings awareness about mass incarceration and education in the correctional system. Outside of student organizations, Eveyln spent her sophomore year as a mentor with the Cities Project, a Chicago nonprofit, and will be a writing consultant with NU’s Writing Place and a peer advisor this year. In her free time, she also publishes articles with NU’s Research Initiative in Russian Philosophy, Literature, and Religious Thought.
After taking a class on the realities of incarceration in the United States and engaging with UPEP, Evelyn became motivated to learn how policies are shaped on a federal level. With a love for research and a passion for learning about the legal field, she sees this fellowship as a perfect opportunity to conduct research on law and learn more about critical issues facing America. As a CSPC fellow, Evelyn wishes to gain skills that will allow her to better understand policymaking and one day shape her own local community.
The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress created the Presidential Fellows Program in 1970 to inspire and equip college students to become civic-minded leaders who could guide our nation’s future. Today, the program continues that mission by providing top collegiate students with the opportunity to study the federal policymaking process and the inner workings of the executive and legislative branches.
Evelyn is the first Wildcat to be named a CSPC fellow since the At-Large Fellowship was created in 2021.
