Wait Times

Its hard to know exactly how long in advance you need to call in order to book a ride with Safe Ride. Demand for the service varies widely based on many outside factors from campus events to weather, such as rain, snow or if it is a weekend or not. When you call Safe Ride to request a ride the dispatcher will provide an estimate of the time your car will arrive along with your wait time.

For the 2014-2015 school year a total of 30,407 rides were provided compared to 39,132 rides provided in the 2013-2014 school year. During the 2014-2015 academic year the average wait time for a Safe Ride vehicle was 24 minutes compared to 32 minutes 2013-2014 school year. With the addition of TapRide wait times are estimated based on each drivers reported time (individual ride times vary). For the 2014-2015 school year an average of 140 rides per night were provided compared to an average of 174 rides per night during the 2013-2014 school year.

TapRide (a mobile ride hailing app) was used for the entire academic year in 2014-15. This is now the primary way to request a ride, with the call-in as a supplemental way to request rides.

Wait times tend to be longer in general on weekends, and nightly between 10pm and Midnight.

During adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, or extremely low temperatures wait times can be much longer. Plan accordingly.
