Student Groups
The following student groups engage and support the Northwestern community with the topics discussed in "Just Mercy".
African Students Association
ASA is a student organization that promotes African Awareness to the greater Northwestern community. Our main goal is to provide a deeper understanding of the roots and histories of African culture.
Alianza
The purpose of Alianza, the largest Latinx student organization at Northwestern University, is to unite and support its members to work towards the advancement of an empowered, productive, Latinx presence at this institution. Alianza is a cultural, educational, and social programming body, which also serves as a vehicle for activism.
Alliance of African Scholars
The Alliance of African Scholars (AAS) seeks to unite African students across varied academic disciplines, creating spaces for critical discourse and activism regarding African representations, social movements, and current events. As a community, AAS interrogates dominant African narratives to challenge the manner in which students, professors, and administrators engage Africa. Accordingly, AAS works to create and reform spaces to celebrate dynamic and diverse African experiences.
Advancement for the Undocumented Community
Advancement for the Undocumented Community (AUC) is a student organization dedicated to providing resources and support for undocumented student and students with undocumented family members. Through events, workshops, etc we hope to raise awareness, uplift, and advocate for this community. We hope to work with a number of local and national organizations to find resources and foster an inclusive environment.
Black Graduate Student Association
The purpose of BGSA shall be to foster a sense of community among the Black graduate student body by representing and acting upon its academic, cultural, intellectual, social, and political concerns and interests.
Campus Curlz at Northwestern
Campus Curlz is a natural hair and service-based organization whose goals are to enhance, educate, and uplift those on campus and in the community through educational support and service.
Unfortunately, Campus Curlz is no longer a campus organization.
Chapin Humanities Residential College
As Northwestern's humanities-themed residential college, Chapin fosters a humanities-focused community within the Evanston campus. Our many traditions are fun and productive ways to get to know each other and enjoy our time here, and our fellows mentor the residents and teach beyond the classroom.
College Feminists
College Feminists is the premier feminist and pro-choice organization on the Evanston Northwestern campus. We meet Mondays at 8pm at the Women's Center, discussing issues ranging from domestic violence to the college hook-up scene. We believe that every woman should be able to make her own decisions regarding abortion and birth control and we seek to educate students and the community at large about their rights to such decisions. We also work to counteract negative images of women and work against gender stereotyping. We believe in a progressive, informed, and open-minded community. We hope to accomplish these goals by rallying, supporting and educating one another in the Northwestern Community and also by creating a network with other college campuses nationwide.
Culture and Community Studies Residential College
CCS, Northwestern University’s first residential college, founded all the way back in 1972. Our majors range from art practice to journalism to engineering, but we share a love of diverse cultures and concern for our local and global communities.
Blackboard Magazine
BlackBoard, Northwestern University’s Black student magazine, serves as an open forum for student expression. The curators of the magazine hope to challenge the audience to think critically in order to move out of orthodox thought processes. Ubuntu, “I am because we are,” is the slogan of the magazine that acts as a symbol for a unified Black community, for we realize that without honoring all of our intricate and diverse identities, we have nothing. With a determined staff and dedicated board, this publication will provide a world of knowledge and food for thought on a consistent basis.
For Members Only
FMO is the voice of the Black community here at Northwestern. Providing major programming throughout the year as well as partaking in co-sponsored events, we serve to provide all Black students on campus with a college experience that is tailored to them.

Hobart Women’s Residential College
Hobart House, also known as Northwestern University’s Women’s Residential College, is the only all-female dorm located on the campus. Residents like to refer to the house fondly as the "Ho House" or "Hobe".
I Am That Girl
IATG NU provides a safe place for individuals to facilitate honest conversation. We hope to inspire students to love, express, and be exactly who they are.
Minority Business Association
Northwestern's MBA creates minority business leaders with a commitment to giving back to their communities through education, experience, and opportunity. The vision of MBA is to equip its members with a well-rounded base of experiences to be successful in their profession. Our end goal is for all members to either pursue post-graduate education or to graduate with a full-time job. We aim to create minority leaders who are pioneers in their respective industries with a commitment to giving back to their communities through education, experience and opportunity.
Mock Trial
An inaugural member of the American Mock Trial Association, NUMT has been one of the premier Mock Trial programs in the nation over the past 35 years. We pride ourselves on teaching new members -- no matter their experience level - the foundations of public speaking, mock trial, and legal procedure.
Multicultural Filmmakers Collective
We're Multicultural Filmmakers Collective at Northwestern University, but you may know us as Multiculti or MFC (we have a few nicknames).
We are a student group committed to promoting greater representation of people from underrepresented backgrounds in all aspects of the film community at Northwestern -from development to casting to physical production and beyond. We aim to educate students and provide them with opportunities to create thought-provoking and socially conscious content and also connect student filmmakers with the greater film industry in Chicago, L.A., and New York.
Muliticultural Greek Council
The MGC is a unique community of fraternities and sororities; each of these member organizations’ foundations is founded upon celebrating cultural diversity and educating the community about its rich cultural heritage. The MGC and the Greek-letter organizations are powerful media through which group members can express and share their cultural pride. The members cherish the belief that the college experience is more valuable when it includes self-expression through the richness of diversity

NABJ is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.
National Pan-Hellenic Association
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at Northwestern University consists of seven of the "Divine Nine" historically black fraternities and sororities. Each of the NPHC organizations evolved during a period when African Americans were denied essential rights and privileges afforded to other college students. NPHC organizations maintain high positive standards for its member organizations and ensure the perpetuation of responsibility and privilege through engaging in service to the African American community at NU and the community at large.
Northwestern Political Union
The Northwestern University Political Union (PU) is a community of students united by their common interest in discussions of political and global affairs. Bringing together students of various backgrounds, ideologies, and political persuasions, the Political Union aims to foster a revival of intellectualism, sincerity, and sophistication in Northwestern’s campus political discourse.
National Society of Black Engineers- NU
The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
Northwestern Quest Scholars Network
A group which provides a community for and advocates on behalf of first-generation and/or low-income students.
NU Community for Human Rights
Through programming events, seminars, exposure trips and the culminating conference, NUCHR provides a mechanism for critical discourse in order to challenge assumptions and broaden perceptions on international human rights issues at Northwestern and beyond. The three-day undergraduate student-organized conference unites student delegates from across the country with distinguished academics, activists and policy-makers from around the globe to address a unique aspect of human rights each year.
Out Da Box
Out Da Box is Northwestern's hit Campus Sketch Comedy and Improv group. For more than 30 years, Out Da Box has strived to bring comedy to all Northwestern Students — of any major or background — through their consistently sold-out improv and sketch comedy shows. ODB commits to pushing social and political boundaries all while raising the bar of comedy on campus!

Peer Inclusion Educators (PIE) is a program out of Campus Inclusion & Community - Social Justice Education led by and for students. PIE is dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment by addressing issues surrounding personal awareness and social justice with peers at Northwestern. PIE facilitators lead specific and intentional programming for Greek houses, residential communities, student groups, and other student spaces across campus.
Phi Alpha Delta
Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International is a professional law fraternity advancing integrity, compassion and courage through service to the student, the school, the profession and the community.
Radius Theatre
Radius Theatre (formerly called Voz) is dedicated to creating theatrical opportunities for and amplifying the voices of students of color.
Students Organizing for Labor Rights
Students Organizing for Labor Rights is a coalition of students at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL working toward collective liberation by building student-labor solidarity.
Studio 22 Productions
Studio 22 Productions is Northwestern’s very own student-run film/video production company. Studio 22 exists to serve and challenge the film community in all aspects and to provide opportunities to experiment in filmmaking, as well as to develop networks with alumni and film professionals. We also provide educational opportunities via workshops and speakers, and we aim to introduce new filmmakers to student film. In essence, Studio 22 continually strives to promote education, ambition, and quality in Northwestern filmmakers.
Sustained Dialogue
Sustained Dialogue (SD) is a student-facilitated program that encourages conversation across lines of difference with other Northwestern students. In the past few years, discourses have altered and shifted, but the history of white supremacy that Northwestern was founded upon remains present on our campus whether we can all see it or not. It is our role as students to listen to each other, to change, to be changed, and to participate in change that goes beyond self-improvement and learning the language of diversity.
The Collective
The purpose of The Collective is to build community on campus through increased engagement with individuals who identify as Black men, regardless of their other salient identities. Knowing that the intersection of our Blackness and manhood often grant us power and privilege, we are constantly striving to acknowledge these benefits as we better understand how we, as Black men, both benefit and suffer from systems of oppression. We encourage our members to engage with this complexity and redefine black manhood in the process through self-reflection, education, and group dialogue.
Women in Leadership
Women in Leadership’s purpose is to bring together female students, alumnae, and successful women leaders in an inviting atmosphere to explore professional and personal issues that impact our lives and careers. Women in Leadership offers quarterly programs that feature speakers, panels, and workshops on topics salient to undergraduate university women. Additionally, the Women in Leadership Program seeks to recognize undergraduate female student leaders for their contributions to campus and academic life.
