Conflict Resolution Resources

Conflict Resolution Resources

As in any other situation in life, conflict can happen in your live off-campus, whether with a roommate, a housing provider, or a neighbor. These situations can be tough to manage, but you are not alone! In addition to reaching out to the Off-Campus Life office for support, here are two other local resources you can use when conflicts spark.

Northwestern Office of the Ombudsperson

Northwestern has established on Office of the Ombudsperson. The Ombudsperson provides confidential, neutral, and informal assistance to resolve conflicts. While the primary role of the Ombudsperson is to deal with University-related concerns, the Ombudsperson can also assist with conflicts that any member of the Northwestern community is facing. Services include facilitating communication, providing referrals, and consultation on conflict resolution. The ombudsperson is even able to serve as a mediator; however, in this case both parties must be members of the University community. Learn more here.

Center for Conflict Resolution

Chicago hosts one of the best mediation services in the country: the Center for Conflict Resolution, or CCR. CCR’s services are free, and conducted both in-person, and remotely. If both you and the person(s) with whom you have a conflict are willing, CCR will set you up with a mediator to hear out the conflict, and assist all parties in coming to a positive, negotiated solution.
