Young alumnae and female students received valuable career instruction at the Council of One Hundred annual spring meeting April 13-14 on the Evanston campus. Maureen Barry Grezlakowski (McC76, GMcC79, KSM88), senior adviser of Investor Growth Capital Inc., discussed her new book, Mother Leads Best: 50 Women Who Are Changing the Way Organizations Define Leadership (Dearborn Trade, 2005), which cites examples from a number of successful Northwestern alumnae. Ava Harth Youngblood (McC79), former NAA president and president of Youngblood Executive Search Inc., offered tips on interview skills, and Alexandra Levit Shankman (WCAS98) offered advice on internships. The club's fall meeting is set for Oct. 19-20.

In March NUGALA (Northwestern University Gay and Lesbian Alumni) co-sponsored the news-making performance of Sweet Charity at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre, where lead actress Christina Applegate broke her foot early in the show. Tony Award-winning actor Denis O'Hare (C84), as the male lead, Oscar, and cast members met with the NAA audience for a post-show discussion and special reception at the Hotel Allegro. The club's new officers are Lisa Parker Gates (GJ87), president; Marc McClellan (C81) and Tony Swain (KSM99), vice presidents; Gary Riley (McC96), treasurer; and Tom Carpenter (C90), secretary. Charles Katzenmeyer (WCAS85, KSM89) is organizing a 10th anniversary lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender party during Northwestern's 2005 Homecoming weekend, Oct. 28-30.
