Other Campus Support
Below, you will find a list of some key partner offices for pre-health students. These offices can assist you in finding a wide variety of hands-on opportunities as well as addressing challenges.
- Academic Support and Learning Advancement [ASLA] provides course support, coaching and mentoring, academic resources, and peer leadership opportunities. Many pre-health students use drop in peer tutoring services as well as participate in the peer-guided study groups.
- Center for Civic Engagement: The Center for Civic Engagement offers fellowships including the Northwestern University Public Interest Program (NUPIP). Other popular programs among our pre-health students include the AmeriCorps JumpStart program and the Engage Chicago Summer program
- Chicago Field Studies [CFS]: CFS is a one-quarter academic internship program at Northwestern University popular among pre-health students. The CFS combines a course and internship experience to bring academic context to the professional world, expanding learning beyond the classroom and enabling students to pursue both academic and career aspirations. The program is open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in any NU school or major.
- Northwestern Career Advancement [NCA]: In addition to other services and resources, NCA operates Handshake, an online career platform. This resource offers full-time positions and summer/academic year internships. The NCA offers resume and cover letter writing support in addition to part-time job finding resources, e.g., the student employment job board and the Work-Study Program website
- Northwestern University Global Learning Office [GLO]: The Northwestern University Global Learning Office enriches the undergraduate curriculum by providing students with rigorous immersion opportunities abroad. These transformative experiences shape the way students think about themselves, their communities, and the world. Study abroad experiences are available during the academic year and summer. Talk with your HPA advisor for more information about timing your study abroad.
- Office of Fellowships: The Office of Fellowships can help you launch your search for national and international fellowship competitions that meet your educational, intellectual, and personal needs. Fellowships fall into many categories. Some provide funding to attend graduate school; others allow you to study or to conduct research overseas to gain practical experience in your field of study. The Fellowships Finder is a popular database for pre-health students looking for funded research opportunities.
- Office of Undergraduate Research [OUR]: The Office for Undergraduate Research can introduce you to research opportunities at Northwestern and help you find funding for your research projects. Sign up for their e-newsletter and look for a workshop to attend to explore research opportunities further.
- NU Help: One-on-one support is available from staff across the University to help you prioritize and manage your health, so you can achieve your academic and personal goals.
