APSA is the largest national organization representing physician-scientist trainees, with over 2,000 members from more than 100 institutions across the United States and its territories. We are excited to invite mentors and prospective graduate and professional school applicants to participate in our Pre-Medical Mentorship Program. This is a program where current physician-scientist trainees serve as mentors throughout the academic year to pre-medical undergraduate/post-baccalaureate students interested in becoming physician-scientists. This is a valuable opportunity for pre-medical students to form a longitudinal one-on-one connection with a physician-scientist trainee and receive personalized advice/feedback towards achieving their career goals. All mentor-mentee pairs receive “monthly prompts” with discussion topics specific to the physician-scientist training path. Some past topics included MCAT study strategies, MD/DO-PhD interview-specific advice, and insight into a day in the life of a physician-scientist trainee. Mentees may sign up for free and do not need to be an APSA member.

The Center for Women’s Mental Health is a clinical and research program within the Department of Psychiatry at MGH. Our Center is dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric disorders associated with female reproductive function. The Program provides a range of clinical services to women, including: consultation regarding the use of psychiatric medications during pregnancy; treatment for postpartum mood and anxiety disorders; treatment for premenstrual syndrome; and treatment of menopause-related mood and anxiety symptoms, sleep disorders, and hot flashes. Our research examines a wide range of questions which affect the lives of women with these conditions.

The fellowship will bring together up to 10 younger participants ages 15–25 and 10 older adults ages 65 and older. Participants will be paired across generations to explore storytelling, writing, and visual art before designing a small civic project that addresses an issue they care about in Chicago.

The program begins with an in-person kickoff on October 17 and continues through monthly gatherings and project work during the spring. Participants who complete the fellowship will receive a $250 stipend, and each pair will have up to $500 to carry out its civic project.

Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute Biorepository - Juvenile Myositis (JM) Sample Inventory Support
The Division of Rheumatology at Lurie Children’s is seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented students to assist with juvenile myositis sample inventory in the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute (SMCRI) Biorepository. We are looking for two students who have completed at least their freshman year of college and who have an interest in science or healthcare.

Although this is an unpaid opportunity, it offers valuable experience in clinical research and exposure to the Biorepository at Lurie Children’s.

Time Commitment
Students must be available for a minimum of 2-hour blocks during the work week to work onsite in the Biorepository Lab at SMCRI. 3-4 hours at a time is preferred.
Primary responsibilities include helping to inventory juvenile myositis samples.

Training
Completion of lab biosafety trainings and human subjects research training is required

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
Effective communication with colleagues
Accurate record-keeping and data management

The central role of the Medical Scribe is to relieve the physician of clerical or secretarial duties; thus, allowing the physician to focus more directly on clinical care. The scribe observes the physician during patient encounters and performs documentation on the physician’s behalf. Under the direction of the physician, they enter information into the patient’s electronic or written chart. At the physician’s request, the scribe must be able to locate past medical records, prior lab/radiology results, or past visit histories for the physician to review. Additionally, within the EMR itself the scribe needs the ability to enter data into the chart on the physician’s behalf. All scribe-entered data is reviewed and authenticated by the physician. 

Qualifications:
-Must have a high school diploma or GED. Experience in the medical field is preferred
-Computer and typing skills are required 
-Familiarity with medical knowledge preferred 
-A responsible and mature individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Position type: Entry-level. Part-Time, typically 2-3 shifts per week. Full-time, 4-5 shifts per week. Average shift is between 8-12 hours. Hours will vary depending on location and specialty.
