A professor of mathematics at Harvard since 2005, Michael Hopkins has also taught at MIT, Princeton, the University of Chicago, and Lehigh University. His work concentrates on algebraic topology (a branch of geometry that studies the properties of geometric objects that are preserved after bending/stretching), and is an eminent leader in the field. He was the 2014 recipient of the Frederic Esser Nemmers Prize in Mathematics from Northwestern University.
