SoC senior headed to Greece for education fellowship

The Office of Fellowships is proud to announce that Lydia Hartman (SoC ’20) has been selected for the 2020–2021 cohort of the Anatolia College Postgraduate Fellowship! As a US college counseling fellow, Lydia will spend the next academic year living in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Lydia is a graduating senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, majoring in theatre and political science with a minor in film and media studies. During her time at Northwestern, Lydia has pursued many opportunities within her Lydia Hartmanvarious fields of study. Thanks to the Summer Internship Grant Program, provided by Northwestern Career Advancement, Lydia spent a summer in Los Angeles as a development intern with Radiant Productions. She was selected as a 2019–2020 Farrell Fellow to conduct research with a faculty member in the Department of Political Science. As an actor, Lydia participated in the theatre department’s annual New York City Senior Showcase. These opportunities, as well as her courses and professors, have nurtured her love for language, progressive politics, movies, and comedy.

Beyond the classroom, Lydia is a member of The Bix, Northwestern’s premier musical improv group. She joined The Bix in her first year on campus and has served as co-director for the past two years. She is also the public relation’s co-chair for Studio 22, a student-run film-production company, and an actor for Northwestern Sketch Television. As a junior, Lydia was co-chair executive for Lipstick Theatre, a student-run theatre company dedicated to producing intersectional feminist work on campus. She credits these activities for fostering her growth as a leader and contributor, and her peers for giving her lessons and light each and every day.

Anatolia College emblemLydia is Northwestern’s first-ever recipient of the Anatolia College Postgraduate Fellowship, which encourages passion for education with an emphasis on international cultural exchange. In Greece, she will enjoy her first experience living abroad as she works closely with Anatolia high school students during their college application processes and takes graduate-level courses at Anatolia College.
