Advising

GLO Offers a variety of opportunities to help you research and explore your program options.

Study Abroad 101 Group Advising  Program Information Sessions

Study Abroad 101

Your first step is to attend a Study Abroad 101. This is the best way to learn about how study abroad works at Northwestern, including information about programs, financial aid, the application process, and navigating the GLO Portal.

All live 30 minute general sessions are held virtually.

You can also access a recording of the Study Abroad 101 if you are unable to attend a live session:

Group Advising

The programs below offer group advising. These sessions are a helpful way to learn about program requirements, explore your options, and benefit from hearing questions from fellow students.

Important: If a program offers group advising, these sessions are the only advising option available for that program.

1:1 Advising

A 1:1 advising appointment is an opportunity to have an in-depth conversation with a GLO adviser about a program you've already identified as a strong fit for your goals.

Before scheduling a 1:1 appointment, please complete the following:

  • Attend/Watch a Study Abroad 101 session.
  • Attend/Watch any available group advising or program information sessions.
  • Review the program brochure, costs, and partner/host institution website.
  • Speak with past participants or GLO Ambassadors when possible.

These appointments are best for addressing questions that haven't been answered through your research. If you're just starting to explore study abroad options or are still deciding which programs to consider, we recommend reviewing the Getting Started page and attending advising events first.

Important: Appointments scheduled without completing the recommended preparation will be canceled.

1:1 advising is not required to submit an application.

Make sure to click Show More Services if you don't see your program country/region listed.
