Student Assistance and Support Services

Empowering students to navigate university systems and resources as well as make informed decisions

SASS supports students by helping them to navigate complex challenges and remove barriers that impede their ability to thrive at Northwestern.

The services offered by SASS include, but are not limited to:

  • Case and crisis management
  • Voluntary Medical Leave of Absence (MLOA) and Reinstatement
    • Explaining and overseeing the nature and processes of MLOA and reinstatement
  • Non-clinical assistance with medical/psychiatric hospitalization

SASS does not provide counseling and information shared is not confidential (not protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)). For confidential counseling, please contact Counseling and Psychological Services.

Life events can interfere with a student’s ability to be successful at Northwestern. When a challenging situation arises, a student or family may find it difficult to navigate the many resources and services that are available at NU.

Our goal is to remove obstacles by creating a well-coordinated network of services that allow students to close the gap on any potential barriers to academic, co-curricular and social well-being.

Meeting with a SASS team member is often a good starting place.
