Violence Against Women Act
In March 2013, President Obama signed a bill that strengthened the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Included in the bill was the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SaVE) that amends the Clery Act. For additional information on VAWA finalized regulations, visit the VAWA Federal Register.In addition to Northwestern University’s Policy on Institutional Equity, and the Interim Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment, the University makes the following statement of policy, as required under the federal Violence Against Women Act amendments to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crimes Statistics Act. Northwestern University does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its educational programs. Sexual harassment and sexual violence are types of sex discrimination. Other acts are also prohibited whether sexually based or not and include dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
