For Employers

MSES students are uniquely trained to enter the energy and sustainability fields and make an impact. They are broadly trained in the economic, political, and technical dimensions of energy and sustainability, while also specializing in an area of interest. In addition, our practicum-centered curriculum and industry-expert faculty ensure that graduates are well prepared to move into the workforce. Many of our students also have professional experience in industry, and all of them are eligible to work in the US immediately after graduation, including our international students.

Guest Lecture in a Course

MSES students particularly enjoy hearing from industry professionals about the real-world applications of the concepts they learn about in the classroom. Let us know which topic(s) you’d like to lecture on, and we can connect you with the relevant faculty member(s) to see if they have opportunities for you.

Participate in a Panel Discussion

Have a topic that’s particularly relevant in your field right now? Work with MSES and the Kellogg Environment and Sustainability Club (KESC) to plan and participate in a panel discussion on that topic.

Act as a Client/Sponsor for a Practicum or Fellowship Project

Each year MSES sources 10+ sponsors and projects for ISEN 498 – Energy and Sustainability Project Practicum, the capstone of the MSES program, and the NU Sustainability Fellowship. Students work in groups of 4-5 on a 10-week consulting project to deliver actionable results to a real-world client. If you have a project in mind and/or would like to sponsor a project, reach out to Program Director Holly Benz directly.

Hire an MSES Student to Intern with You

MSES students can provide flexible resources to employers as interns. This allows a “try before you buy” model for both the student and employer to test fit before committing to a full-time role. It also provides valuable work experience to students and supports graduate student funding.

Students are available to work part-time (10-15 hours per week) from January through June. MSES Students have no classes on Fridays. We recommend a pay-rate of $28-$30 per hour.

Hire an MSES Graduate for a Full-time Position

Given the MSES curriculum, students are uniquely qualified to take on leadership and management positions in the energy and sustainability industries. They graduate in mid-June and are eager to tackle energy and sustainability challenges in their day-to-day roles. You can learn more about the types of positions MSES students land after they graduate here.

Become an Adjunct Lecturer

Each year MSES adds 1-3 classes to the curriculum. So, we’re always looking for new faculty who are eager to help train the next generation of leaders in energy and sustainability. Browse the bios of our current faculty here.

Become a Career Coach

The mission of the MSES Program is to develop leaders in energy and sustainability. Experienced professionals who can offer career advice and mentorship are a key part of ensuring this mission. Opportunities are available across sectors. Browse the bios of our current coaches here.
