Centennial Class Returns

The class of 1951 returns for commencement in this Sesquicentennial year.

Members of the Centennial class of 1951 joined the class of 2001 at Ryan Field for the 143rd Commencement, with both classes wearing special tassels commemorating Northwestern's Sesquicentennial year.

Before the ceremony 175 Centennial class members, spouses and guests assembled at the John Evans Center, where they greeted old friends and dressed in their caps and gowns.

The next day the Centennial class took a bus tour of the campus, marveling at the changes, and then joined older alumni at the Norris University Center for the Half Century Club Luncheon and installation as members.

That evening the class of 1951 and guests celebrated at a reunion ball at nearby Westmoreland Country Club. At the same time alumni from every year of the 1930s and from 1941 — joined by their guests — gathered at Evanston's Omni Orrington Hotel for an evening of cocktails, dancing, good food and good company.
