Lake View High School

Northwestern is the official university partner for Lake View High School, an Early College STEM High School. Programming is overseen by Science in Society and includes teacher professional development, student mentoring, and other activities. Staff from SiS have a presence in Lake View HS, working out of the Northwestern “Purple Room.”

Science in Society is a Northwestern University research center dedicated to science education and public engagement. Through partnerships with Chicago-area schools and community groups, SiStrainsNorthwestern researchers to share their expertise and creativity in a community-centered way, and to develop sustainable educational initiatives that deliver proven results for groups that need us most.

Office of Community Education Partnerships

SESP is Northwestern’s main conduit for educational partnerships, training the next generation of teachers and researchers, and PreK –20+ educational research. Through the Office of Community Education Partnerships, SESP has developed meaningful and strategic partnerships with Chicago Public Schools. They operate Centers of Excellence at two CPS high schools and have engaged in partnerships with many other schools.

Lane Tech HS

Northwestern University, Apple, and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) have joined forces to provide professional learning opportunities in coding to Chicago teachers. A Center for Excellence will be established at Lane Tech College Prep High School to introduce high school teachers toApple’s Everyone Can Code and App Development with Swift curriculum. The district-wide effort aims to bring coding into the classroom and address the shortage of high school computer science teachers.

Lindblom Math and Science Academy

The Baxter Center for Science Education is a collaborative partnership between OCEP, Lindblom Math & Science Academy, and Baxter International Inc. Our mission is to work with partners from the K-12 community, academia, and industry to develop programs that promote equity in science education and student success in STEM careers by bringing authentic and engaging science experiences to all students in diverse learning environments. Our team is made up of scientists and educators dedicated to supporting quality STEM education for all.

Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy

In 2003 Northwestern Law adopted Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy in West Town as part of an educational partnership with Chicago Public Schools' Futures Exchange Program. Each year the Northwestern Law community participates in a variety of programs to make a difference in the lives of students at Talcott.

Medill Media Teens

Medill students mentor teens on Saturdays during the school year at the Gary Comer Youth Center. Medill students and Chicago teens experiment with video, audio, photography and website production in Medill’s downtown Chicago newsroom and on the streets of Chicago.

Northwestern Academy is a free, multiyear college access and enrichment program for diverse, academically motivated students. The Academy is supported by Northwestern University and offered at no cost to students.

Mather High School

Science Explorers, developed by Science in Society, pairs scientists (Science Education Fellows) with small groups of freshmen biology students to help students build science skills and achieve academic success in the transition to high school.

Principal Fellowship Program

A partnership between Chicago Public Schools, Northwestern’s Center for Nonprofit Management at the Kellogg School of Management and the School of Education and Social Policy led to the creation of the Chicago Public Schools Principal Fellowship Program. Northwestern faculty provide leadership training and executive coaching to top educators from CPS.

MyCHI. My Future.

Developed by Nichole Pinkard in Northwestern’s Office of Community Education Partnerships (OCEP) in the School of Education and Social Policy, MCMF is a partnership between the City of Chicago, Chicago Public Schools, DePaul University and Northwestern University. Northwestern has provided almost $1 million in financial support to build out the platform infrastructure, which helps Chicago’s youth connect to in-school, out-of-school and online learning opportunities.
