Northwestern’s culture, reputation and values were a huge part of my decision to apply at NU. I read an article about Northwestern’s diversity and inclusion efforts, and I was really impressed. I consider myself an innovator, and I wanted to work for an organization that’s leading the future and on the forefront of diversity.”

When working with student groups and student organizations, his focus is promoting an inclusive environment. This includes facilitating diversity-geared programming, volunteering on boards and serving on groups like Northwestern's Change Makers and the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Cross Campus Team.

Working with students to build community and find their passion has helped me find mine as well,” says Akines. I'm committed to ensuring all people are valued and respected.” These interactions have become the highlight of Akines' career.

Akines considers Northwestern an institution at the forefront of diversity efforts, but that isn't the only distinction he sees for the university. “Our community, students and environment is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced,” says Akines. “The students really care about one another, they’ve created their own community where they uplift and inspire those around them.”
