MSA End of Year Celebrations

Each year, MSA hosts a series of End-of-Year Celebrations to recognize the accomplishments of our students.

Native American and Indigenous Community Celebration

Sunday, May 19, 2024

Time: 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Location: Guild Lounge

The Native American and Indigenous Community Celebration is an annual event co-hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) that celebrates the yearly contributions of Native and Indigenous graduates, students, faculty, staff, and community members.   All students who register to participate will receive a white stole with purple and maple and oak leaves appliquéd by hand at the celebration.

APIDA Senior Send-Off

Time: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Location: Cahn Auditorium

The APIDA Senior Send-Off is an annual celebration hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs to recognize and celebrate Northwestern's graduates of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi descent. All students who register to participate will receive an "APIDA NU Grad" stole at the celebration.

MENA Congratulatory

Location: Cohen Commons

The Middle Eastern North African (MENA) Congratulatory Celebration, hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) and Middle Eastern and North African Student Association (MENA SA), is a commemoration of MENA graduates’ time at Northwestern. This ceremony is to honor traditions, marvel in our graduates’ accomplishments, and recognize their pursuits and aspirations ahead. All students who register will receive a purple-and-white, classic mosaic-print stole at the celebration.

The JOY: NU's Black Congratulatory

The Journey of Our Years, or the JOY, is an annual celebration hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of Northwestern's Black graduates.   All students who register to participate will receive a Kente stole at the celebration.

Latinx Congratulatory

Location: Cahn Auditorium

The Latinx Congratulatory is an annual celebration hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of Northwestern's Latinx graduates.   All students who register to participate will receive a butterfly stole at the celebration.

FAQ's

Can I bring guests? How many? 

We encourage you to invite friends, family, and community to celebrate with you.  

What will the seating be like for the events? 

For The JOY, APIDA Senior Send-Off, and Latinx Congratulatory graduates and ceremony participants (performers/stolers/speakers) will have assigned reserved seating. The remainder of Cahn will be open seating for all guests to sit where they like with whomever they choose. The Native American and Indigenous Community Celebration will have open seating at the Guild Lounge. 

How much does it cost for a stole in an MSA ceremony? 

MSA provides event specific stoles free of charge to graduates that sign up for our events by the registration deadline.  

I submitted my info and need to update something/change the information I submitted: 

If this is during open registration, please fully re-registrar. Your most recent submission is what will be used for the celebration(s) you opt into. Once the registration closes (April 21st), we will not be able to update information due to marketing and planning deadlines. 

What is the dress code for the event? 

There is no official dress code for MSA graduation celebrations. You are welcome to wear traditional/ethnic, professional, and/or casual clothes. Whatever is comfortable for you, come as you want to.  

I missed the registration deadline; can I still participate in the celebration(s)?  

Please contact the outreach email listed for the ceremony you are interested in attending. The person coordinating the ceremony will follow up to inform you if walk-ins are possible due to any last-minute cancellations.  

I will not be able to attend the celebration(s), can I still receive the stole?   

The graduation stoles are specific to the ceremonies and are ordered by MSA staff based on the number of students registered to attend the ceremony. Please contact the outreach email listed for the ceremony you are interested in attending. The person coordinating the ceremony will follow up to inform you if stole pick-up is an option.   

I am a Northwestern staff/faculty/student. Can I attend the celebration?

Yes, any guest who would like to attend do not need to register
