some of our accommodations in the evanston accessiblenu office

Appropriate services and accommodations are determined by AccessibleNU on a case-by-case basis. Students with questions about eligibility for services are encouraged to email the center. Depending on students' needs and limitations, documentation, and history of accommodations and educational environment, AccessibleNU may provide the following (although this list is not exhaustive) as appropriate:

Common Academic Accommodations

  • Testing accommodations

  • Note-taking services

  • Materials in e-text and audio format

  • Access to adaptive equipment and software

  • Interpreter and captioning services

  • Assistance in activity relocation

  • Priority registration

Common Exam Accommodations

  • Extended test taking time (50% additional time is the standard)

  • Reduced-distraction test environment (which is different from a private testing room)

  • Computer access for essay exams

  • Use of a basic calculator for math computation

  • Assistive technology such as text-to-speech software or dictation software

Other accommodations may be appropriate but will typically only be implemented with instructor or departmental approval. These may include (but are not limited to) course substitutions or alternative ways to complete assignments (e.g., oral presentation versus a written paper).
