Athletic Training

Certified athletic trainers are highly qualified health professionals trained in preventing, evaluating, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries. Athletic trainers collaborate with physicians throughout the injury process to ensure safe and efficient return to normal activity. Our athletic training staff members at Northwestern University Health Service are certified by the athletic training Board of Certification ( and are licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. Each of our staff members hold a variety of specialty certifications in different areas of interest including corrective exercise, performance enhancement, and dry needling.

Our staff provides comprehensive athletic training services at two locations on Northwestern University’s campus: Student Health Services and Henry Crown Sports Pavilion (HCSP). Services include injury assessment, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, taping, and bracing. Please see below information for scheduling and walk-in availability.

Athletic Training FAQs

Can I schedule an appointment with an athletic trainer?

Yes, by email ( or by phone call (847-491-8100) – appointments with one of our staff athletic trainers cannot be scheduled through the MyNM online portal.

Are athletic trainers available for walk-in appointments?

Yes, during selective hours throughout the week at HCSP. Please see the hours of availability listed above for walk-in times at HCSP. Please note – our athletic trainers also see scheduled patients during the above walk-in times. It is encouraged to schedule an appointment in advanced to ensure clinician availability. 

Is there a cost to see an athletic trainer?

No. Eligible students may schedule an appointment or walk-in to see an athletic trainer for injury evaluation and rehabilitation without charge.
