Application for OBON Ambassadorship

OBON selects 10 – 15 OBON ambassadors to serve as additional student representatives to help implement the One Book One Northwestern Program. Because the mission of OBON is to build community and dialogue across a range of schools, disciplines and groups, ambassadors help One Book reach out to various parts of Northwestern.

Ambassadors work in small groups with a One Book Fellow to promote and support OBON programming for the year. Ambassadors are placed in groups based on their interests and skills (see description of groups below).

The time commitment for the ambassadorship is roughly 4 hours a month throughout the academic year. Ambassadors receive a free copy of the book, One Book t-shirt and special access to various opportunities throughout the year.

Most of the ambassadors’ work falls into four main categories:

  • Discussion and dialogue – planning and running One Book discussions and collaborating with students, staff and faculty to promote a general intercampus dialogue about the topics and themes explored in the book. Help lead a discussion group at the residential halls or during one of the Dittmar Dinners.
Events – implementing publicity plans for events; assist in flyering on campus, ushering, photography, setup and clean up at the events.
