Piano Use Policy
The pianos located in Alice Millar Chapel and Jeanne Vail Chapel are Northwestern University-owned instruments maintained for worship services, rehearsals, performances, educational programs, and approved events. To protect these instruments and minimize disruption to building operations, all piano use is subject to the following guidelines:
- Piano use is limited to approved reservations, University-sponsored activities, worship services, rehearsals, performances, and educational programs.
- Individuals and groups wishing to use a piano must reserve the appropriate space through Mazevo or obtain prior written approval from Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) staff.
- Use of a piano is limited to the date, time, and location specified in the approved reservation.
- Unscheduled or walk-in use of either piano is not permitted unless expressly authorized by RSL staff.
- Piano use must not interfere with worship services, classes, meetings, rehearsals, prayer, or other scheduled activities.
- Users are expected to exercise reasonable care when using University-owned instruments and must immediately report any damage, malfunction, or maintenance concerns to RSL staff.
- RSL staff reserve the right to limit, suspend, or deny access to either piano to support facility operations, accommodate scheduled activities, preserve the instruments, or ensure compliance with RSL policies.
- Individuals or organizations responsible for damage to a piano may be held financially responsible for repair or replacement costs and may lose access to RSL spaces or reservation privileges.
