Communication

To kick off the national celebration of the School of Communication’s 125th anniversary, Dean Barbara O’Keefe joined members of the NU Club of Dallas Oct. 29, 2003, to view The Way They Were, a DVD edited from the star-studded revue that marked the opening of the Theatre and Interpretation Center in 1980. Nine-time Emmy Award–winner Bob Banner (GC48, H81) produced the revue and was on hand at the event to share his memories of the original production that featured performances by Charlton Heston (C45), Jerry Orbach (C56), Penny Fuller (C59), Ann-Margaret (C63) and Tony Roberts (C61). Other viewing parties were held for alumni in Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Sun Cities, Ariz.

On Nov. 16, 2003, O’Keefe and faculty members Dilip Gaonkar, E. Patrick Johnson and Justine Cassell met with members of the NU Club of New York at the Makor/Steinhardt Center of the 92nd Street Y and discussed the globalization of communication and the school’s role in the changing culture and media.
