Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences Dean Daniel Linzer welcomed alumni members of the school’s Board of Visitors to the Evanston campus in May. Led by chair Cameron Findlay (WCAS82), the group discussed issues related to undergraduate education and met with President Henry S. Bienen and the school’s Student Advisory Board. Members also enjoyed a reception and dinner at the Chicago Botanic Garden, where they heard a presentation by David Lentz, adjunct professor of anthropology at Northwestern and vice president of scientific affairs and senior scientist at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

In March Weinberg hosted “Drug Discovery: Ingenuity or Serendipity?” Richard Silverman’s inaugural lecture as the John Evans Professor of Chemistry. Silverman, who holds appointments in the departments of chemistry and biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology, developed Lyrica, a drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat neuropathic pain associated with diabetes and herpes. His lecture addressed how medicinal chemists design and discover new drugs.
