Emergency Power Outage

October 22, 2024

Update: Power was fully restored to all buildings on the Evanston campus shortly after midnight Wednesday, following an emergency outage due to an equipment failure. Please direct any additional questions or concerns to facilities@northwestern.edu.

Following an equipment failure, ComEd will conduct emergency repairs to the electrical infrastructure in the southeast portion of the Evanston campus late this afternoon, which will impact electricity in some buildings.

Power will be turned off at the following locations from 4 p.m. until roughly 2 a.m. tonight:

Block Museum of Art
Norris University Center

Pick-Staiger Concert Hall

Regenstein Hall of Music

Ryan Center for the Musical Arts

Sailing Center

Segal Visitors Center

South campus parking garage

University Library

Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts

No residential buildings will be affected.

Schools, units and faculty will issue further guidance about the effects for scheduled classes, events and evening operations. The University is working to provide backup power for critical operations.
