Initiatives

The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance promotes and participates in University initiatives to maintain an environment free of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct.

Learn more about these efforts:

  • Affirmative action
One of the ways Northwestern fosters an environment of diversity and equal opportunity is through affirmative action planning in the areas of recruitment and retention. Northwestern University actively seeks women, minorities, veterans and persons with disabilities.
  • Campus Climate Survey
Surveys in 2019 and 2015 were used to collect information about student perspectives and experiences related to sexual misconduct, as well as knowledge of resources available at Northwestern. Northwestern uses this information to strengthen sexual misconduct response, resources, and prevention initiatives.
  • Progress Pride Flag Initiative
Committed to fostering a culture of access and belonging for all community members, this initiative centers the visibility, resiliency, and tenacity of the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Student Advisory Board
The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance’s Student Advisory Board is an important function in fostering transparency and intentionally centering the needs of Northwestern students. This group is made up of undergraduate and graduate students across various schools.
