Serving students, teachers, and clients throughout a multifaceted career at the intersection of education and the arts, N. Charles Thomas has worked as an admission officer with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; as arts development supervisor for Chicago Public Schools, where he led the creation of an arts curriculum framework for the nation’s third-largest school system; and as senior writer with Northwestern University’s Office of Alumni Relations and Development. His writing on arts and culture has been featured in the New York Times, Classical Singer, Time Out New York, and Time Out Chicago, among other publications, and he is the founder of Third Coast WordWorks, a copywriting and communications consulting business specializing in education and the arts.

Also a versatile, classically trained singer, Charles has performed at opera houses, jazz clubs, and concert venues in Europe and the US. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Yale University, where he was a member of the Whiffenpoofs of Yale, and master’s degrees at Northwestern University and the New England Conservatory of Music.
