Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Performance Studies

Kent R. Brooks is an assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Performance Studies in Northwestern University's School of Communication. He teaches Black music studies with an emphasis on Black gospel music history and performance. He is also on the voice faculty for the musical theatre certificate program.

In addition to teaching, Brooks serves as director of special projects for Religious & Spiritual Life, located within Northwestern's Office of Campus Inclusion & Community in Student Affairs. He has won numerous awards and honors for his nearly five decades as a performer and educator in the gospel, jazz, and classical genres.
