Maureen Veronica Knight-Burrell has been a valued member of Northwestern University Information Technology since 1992. In her current role as Director of Application Development and Operations within Administrative Systems, she leads teams responsible for essential business systems such as student, HR, and financial. Her leadership ensures the delivery of reliable, high-impact services that support the university’s core operations and enhance the experience for students, faculty, and staff.

 Beyond her professional responsibilities, Maureen Veronica Knight-Burrell is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Northwestern University. In her role as Director of Networking for the Northwestern Black Professionals Network, she leads initiatives such as the Journey Narrative Series, coordinates special events, and oversees newsletter editing—all while cultivating a welcoming and supportive community. As a founding member of the Northwestern IT Together affinity group, Maureen continues to demonstrate her commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture. 

Her impact reaches beyond the university. Maureen serves on the board of the Network for Change and Continuous Innovation (NCCI), a global organization dedicated to advancing higher education through collaborative leadership and transformative change. She also actively participates in social justice volunteer efforts, embodying a holistic leadership style that seamlessly blends technical expertise with a deep sense of social responsibility. 

More About Maureen

Maureen Veronica Knight-Burrell was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and later moved to London, England, where she completed her primary, secondary, and college education. In January 1990, she relocated to the United States to pursue professional opportunities. It was there that she met Ronnie Burrell, leading to a marriage that has flourished for over three decades.
