Baking Fundamentals (6 weeks)

This fun and interactive series of classes will introduce you to the fundamental baking concepts, skills, and techniques that will boost your baking confidence. The workshop is hands-on, and everyone will take part in practicing techniques and preparing recipes. Students will work side by side (or in teams), so you'll benefit from everyone's experience and shared passion for  baking. Whether you are completely new to baking or are more experienced and looking for some new tips and tricks, you'll learn skills that will nurture your creativity and provide a lifetime of joy (for yourself and those you share with). No prior baking experience is necessary. Come prepared to learn, laugh, have fun, and maybe get a little messy.

Cake Decorating 101 (6 weeks)

  • Wednesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 PM, October 11 - November 15

This course is perfect for the aspiring cake decorator looking to learn the basics of this fun and creative craft. In this beginning course, you will be introduced to various frosting types as well as how to crumb coat a cake and how to frost a smooth cake with buttercream. You will learn how to prepare and fill a pastry bag as well as how to use a pastry bag, assorted icing tips, and buttercream to pipe basic flowers, borders, shells, and leaves. Each class will include demonstrations and plenty of practice time. Throughout the course, the instructor will demonstrate various tools that can make cake decorating easier and even more fun.

Wine Appreciation (5 weeks)

Instructor: Mark Gruber

  • Section A: Tuesdays, 7:30-9:00 PM, October 17 - November 21*
  • Section B: Thursdays, 7:30-9:00 PM, October 12 - November 9
  • Fee: $111 NU/$121 Public

Develop a working knowledge of six wines per class. The course includes wine tasting, grape variety, vintages, wine storage, and wine/food complements. Your course comes with a complimentary sampling of the wines. Please  bring two wine glasses to class. *Please note, Section A of this course will no meet on October 31.

Wine O'Clock (5 weeks)

Instructor:  Mark Gruber

  • Thursdays, 9:15-10:10 PM, October 12 - November 9
  • Fee: $111 NU/$121 Public
  • A follow-up to the Wine Appreciation class, this course will help you develop your knowledge by introducing studetns to newer and rarer labels. The course comes with complimentary sampling of the wines discussed. Please bring two wine glasses to class.
