Tell us a bit about your Northwestern journey.

I joined Northwestern as Assistant to the Deans of The Graduate School (TGS), supporting Dean Kelly Mayo and his leadership team. Starting amidst the COVID-19 pandemic made for an interesting intro to the job, but the welcoming, community-minded folks at TGS quickly made me feel right at home. Learning about the incredible work being done by our graduate students and postdocs sparked my curiosity and motivated me to provide the best support I could for the work they do.

In January 2024, I transitioned to the Office for Research (OR) as Executive Assistant to Vice President for Research Eric Perreault. In OR, I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing group of people and gain a deeper appreciation for Northwestern’s impact as a top research university. It’s fascinating to see so many experts at work and to watch their ideas come to life in real time. I’m excited to see where the journey leads next!

What do you find to be the most rewarding and fulfilling aspect of your work?

I’ve always thought that education is one of the pillars of a society worth belonging to, and the mission of higher education resonates with me especially. While there have certainly been challenges, particularly over the past year, being part of a community that supports learning and innovation is incredibly meaningful and helps me to keep pushing things forward.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

The peninsula by the lakefill on the Evanston campus. It’s a peaceful spot with gorgeous views of the lake, campus, and downtown Chicago.

What’s something you couldn’t function without?

These days, it’s a combination of good night’s sleep and plenty of coffee. (Though I’m still working on perfecting that ratio!) In all honesty though, it’s the network of fellow support staff across the University. Every smooth meeting, seamless event, and successful project is usually underpinned by a team of assistants and coordinators doing the behind-the-scenes logistics. I wouldn’t be able to accomplish much without this group of comrades.

What’s on your bucket list?

More travel! Over the past few years, I’ve been checking off places on my wish list, including France, Costa Rica, and most recently, Japan. I’m looking forward to exploring more, including a trip to Mexico with some friends this spring!

What’s an interesting fact about you?

I’m passionate about plants of all kinds. I have a background in horticulture and enjoy growing orchids at home. When the weather is nice, you’ll find me in the garden. This year, I’m hoping to grow most of my vegetables and flowers from seeds collected from years past. Fingers crossed there will be plenty to enjoy and share!
