Paid Employment
Paid employment can help students with bills as well as build workplace competencies supporting them in their future profession.
Paid Clinical Experiences
Paid clinical experiences often require prior volunteer experience, training, or certification. Pre-health students can leverage prior clinical volunteering experiences into paid work opportunities through onsite networking. Pre-health students can also choose further training and study toward a certification.
Note, many large hospitals may offer EMT training courses. Students can further explore certification opportunities at local community colleges, over summer, and research 'dot.org' sites in your area of interest. Some examples are listed below:
- American Red Cross
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- City Colleges of Chicago
- EMT Training Northwestern Emergency Management Organization (RSO)
- Medical Scribing
- Pharmacy Technician
Paid Non Clinical Experiences
Paid non clinical experiences may require some prior volunteer experience or additional training typically provided by the employer. As most health professionals require problem solving skills and teaching skills (e.g., delivering a diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan to patients), consider on-campus jobs that provide these transferable skills. The following resources are for Northwestern students:
- ASLA Peer Leader Opportunities
- Resident Assistant, Residential Services
- Sitters and Tutors Network
- Student Job Boards
- Work-Study Program
International Students at Northwestern
International students studying at Northwestern should check with the Office of International Student and Scholars Services for more information about eligibility to work on or off of campus.
