Emergency and Essential Needs

Through generous donor support, SES provides funding to cover costs associated with emergencies and essential needs. Funding is provided through the Knight Family Foundation Emergency Fund. This fund works in partnership to support Northwestern undergraduate students.  

UPDATE: SEEN application has been reopened.


Eligibility for funding is based on financial need, as determined by the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid. All requests for funding should be submitted by applying for the SEEN Fund through the SES One Form. Please see the list of eligible funding categories below.

Policy/Additional Information

  • All requests are processed via reimbursement (unless there are extenuating circumstances)
  • Applications will be reviewed and responded to within 2 weeks of submission
  • 85% coverage for medical bills (SES pays 85%, Student pays 15%)
  • $250 vision max and eye exam
  • SES will cover medical/mental health related costs for eligible-students on leave
  • $30 max for mental health copays (if your health insurance exceeds that costs, please reach out to SES for further assistance)
  • Emergency travel must be booked through SES (reimbursements for flights are not available)
