Why participate?

NEXT is a one-day job shadowing program that helps current Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students learn more about a professional field of interest. Alumni hosts arrange for students to spend a day at their place of employment, where students can observe and work alongside their hosts and meet other members of the organization to gain insight into the practical aspects of potential careers. Co-sponsored by NCA and the Northwestern Alumni Association.

Matching Notification

  • All hosts and students will be notified if they have been matched by mid-January 2020.

Alumni from national and international organizations will host students for their day-long externship any time after they have been matched up through Friday, May 1. The exact externship date will be mutually decided by the student extern and alumni host within this timeframe, or another mutually agreed-upon date. Most externships take place over spring break, but this is not required.

Training sessions are held for students who have registered for NEXT and have been matched with an alumni host. Dates will be sent to the students who have been matched in the program at that time.
