Director of ODD at University Libraries
Victoria O. Akinde has spent over 17 years as a librarian and instructor in higher education, following a career in the private sector. Victoria's love for libraries began as a student at theUIC campus back when Sade's "Sweetest Taboo" topped the charts. (You can do the math).
Before transitioning to libraries, she worked in HR at organizations such as Chase, 3Com, and Manufacturer's Services Limited (MSL) and in sales at Chase, and various retail stores including Marshall Fields. Her background in sales, human resources, and financial services allows her to connect people with ideas and opportunities in unique ways.
A native of Nigeria and a lifelong learner with a deep curiosity about people, Victoria enjoys exploring new ideas and presenting on topics such as influence, strategy, and finding your "why". She values resilience and problem-solving and sees each challenge as an opportunity. She views Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" as a personal anthem.
Currently, Victoria is the Director of ODD at University Libraries, a role she has held for over three and a half years. In this capacity, she continues to contribute to the development and engagement of the library staff and faculty. Outside of work, she enjoys music, movies, deep and engaging conversations, and exploring new ideas
