Serena Simpson

Assistant Director of Access and Logistics

Serena Simpson joined Northwestern IT’s communications team as a communications specialist in March 2020. She brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in strategic communication, writing and editing, project management, employee engagement, and more. In her role, she focuses on content development for various Northwestern IT communication mediums, leading strategy and execution for enterprise IT projects, and guiding the editorial direction of both internal and external operational communications. 

 She previously managed IT communication and change management at Chicago Public Schools and has served as a communications consultant for several non-profit and education organizations. Serena completed both a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and a Master of Arts in English literature at Northwestern. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Spelman College, a Master of Arts in writing and publishing from DePaul University, and an executive scholar certificate in nonprofit management from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. 

 As BPN's Assistant Director of Access and Logistics, Serena co-leads member outreach and engagement and collaborates with fellow committee members to plan and manage programming.
