November 7-9
Family Weekend is held each fall to introduce parents of undergraduate students to their son's or daughter's campus life and help them become more familiar with Northwestern. The focus of this annual weekend is welcoming parents as members of the Northwestern community. Classroom visits, meetings with University administrators and deans, a president's convocation, receptions, and a Saturday Wildcat football game are among the planned activities.
The final schedule with complete details, a map, and information about the weekend's activities will be available at Family Weekend check-in on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8.
10 Activities to Consider for Family Weekend
- Attend a play or concert on campus.
- For a special dinner in Evanston, consider Va Pensiero or Oceanique—expensive but unforgettable.
- For reasonably priced good food representing an ethnic culture, try the Olive Mountain, Tapas Barcelona, or Mount Everest.
- Check out the Shakespeare Garden on campus or the Grosse Pointe Lighthouse in north Evanston, both national historic landmarks.
- Show the family Navy Pier in Chicago, and don't miss the Chicago Children's Museum.
- Take advantage of Chicago's cultural offerings, such as the Chicago Symphony, the Goodman Theatre, and the Gene Siskel Film Center.
- Visit the Art Institute, the Field Museum, or the Museum of Science and Industry—they have Monets, dinosaurs, and a submarine you won't forget.
- Schedule a shopping trip on Michigan Avenue and have tea at the Four Seasons.
- If the weather's agreeable, take an architectural tour of Chicago's Loop by boat. Or put on your walking shoes and take one on land.
- Drive north on Sheridan Road to see the beautiful homes along the lake, and stop at Plaza del Lago in Wilmette for lunch.
