Meet the 2013 Board of Directors

Lindsay Barranco

Lindsay Barranco is ecstatic to be serving on the Board of Directors as the Director for the School of Education and Social Policy in addition to coordinating new student initiatives for the Class of 2017 and transfer students. She previously served as a Peer Adviser for 2011 and 2012 and is delighted to return to the Wildcat Welcome family this year! Lindsay is a junior from Houston, TX who is involved with Applause for a Cause, SafeRide, and Dance Marathon at Northwestern. When she is not busy singing Northwestern's fight song, Lindsay enjoys eating fine cheeses (or any cheese), reading National Geographic, listening to jazz, and cheering on Chicago's sports teams. 

Alison Bishop

Alison Bishop is thrilled to serve on the Board of Directors this year as the Director of Staff Training and Dynamics. After serving as a Peer Adviser in 2012, she cannot wait to relive the Wildcat Welcome and new student experience as a Board member. Alison is a junior at Northwestern majoring in Economics and double minoring in Film and Business Institutions. Hailing from Rockville, Maryland, she loves going to a double feature at the Evanston movie theater, spending time with her family and exploring downtown Chicago. On campus, Alison is active in her sorority, A&O Productions, Associated Student Government, and, of course, Wildcat Welcome!

Milana Duggan Milana Duggan is honored to be part of the Board of Directors as the Director for Special Projects after serving as a Peer Adviser in 2011 and 2012. She hails from the farmlands of central Illinois and studies Communication Studies within the School of Communication at Northwestern. Milana spends her weekends traveling with the Northwestern University Speech Team, and if that is not enough talking, she is also a tour guide for NU. Dedicated to incorporating purple into every outfit she wears, she bleeds purple pride, and hopes for nothing more than for people to feel welcome at her favorite university - and also to be BFFs with Justin Bieber.
Ian Hendrickson

Ian Hendrickson could not be more excited to spend what will be his third and final year with New Student and Family Programs as the Director for the Bienen School of Music, after two years spent as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2012. Currently in his fourth year as a Dual Degree candidate in Oboe Performance and French, Ian is also an Associated Student Government Senator, representing off-campus students and a tutor for the Department of French and Italian. A native of Edina, Minnesota, Ian is in a steady relationship with Netflix, but also leaves time for running and the occasional baking when he is not outside enjoying his favorite things about Northwestern, the comparatively mild winters!

Raj Kumar Raj Kumar is honored to be part of the Board of Directors as the Director for the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Raj served as a Peer Adviser in both 2011 and 2012 and loved getting to meet many new students. Studying Materials Science and Engineering, Raj hopes to pursue a graduate degree in engineering after graduating from Northwestern. Outside of class, Raj also coaches for a 7th grade boys basketball team and tutoring college and high school students in the sciences. Raj is from Skokie, Illinois and in his free time enjoys going to Northwestern football and basketball games. Go Cats!
Drew Levorsen Drew Levorsen is thrilled to be returning for his third year with New Student and Family Programs as the Director of Marketing and Recruitment after being a Peer Adviser in 2011 and 2012. He is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering with a certificate in  Engineering Design and loves to play ultimate frisbee in his spare time. Originally from Colorado, Drew loves skiing and hanging out by the campfire watching stars. Besides Wildcat Welcome, his favorite part of Northwestern is going to home football games. Go Cats!
Patrick Metcalf

Patrick Metcalf is a junior from the Chicago suburbs and is thrilled to now serve on the Board of Directors as the Director for the School of Communication after serving as a Peer Adviser in 2011 and 2012. As a Radio/Television/Film major pursuing the Creative Writing for the Media certificate, Patrick is involved in various student film sets on campus and also serves as a host for the radio show ReelTalk. In his free time, he enjoys cheering on the Wildcat football team.

Stephen Piotrkowski Stephen Piotrkowski is unbelievably excited to serve on the Board of Directors as the Director for the Medill School of Journalism, after enjoying his experience as a 2012 Peer Adviser. Stephen is a sophomore double majoring in Journalism and Economics while also pursuing an Integrated Marketing Communications Certificate. He is an active member across campus in organizations such as Associated Student Government, Dance Marathon, his fraternity, and a member of the Student Task Force for the Office of Campus Inclusion and Community . Originally from North Franklin, Connecticut, Stephen loves playing tennis, talking about his cows, and spending copious amounts of time at Norbucks. While he loves all things Wildcat Welcome, Stephen cannot wait to help new students make their first step towards finding their place at NU.
Evan Prose

Evan Prose is ecstatic to be serving on the 2013 Board of Directors after spending 2011 and 2012 as a Peer Adviser. He loves that Wildcat Welcome is fueled by such a unique combination of purple pride and selflessness, and is thrilled to be contributing to that as the Director for the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences this year. Though he can hardly believe he is already a junior, Evan is proudly majoring in Anthropology, minoring in Psychology and pursuing a certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications. When he is not busy prepping for the Class of 2017 and new transfer students, he stays busy on campus with the Club Baseball Team and Dance Marathon. Born and raised in the one-and-only St. Charles, Illinois, Evan loves experimenting in the kitchen and exploring Chicago’s endless restaurant scene.

Lauren Sadowsky

Lauren Sadowsky is so excited to be part of the Board of Directors as the Director of First-Year Initiatives after serving as a Peer Adviser for the past two years.  A Minnetonka, Minnesota native, Lauren is a junior double majoring in Biological Sciences and Science in Human Culture with a minor in Global Health Studies.  On campus, she is involved in GlobeMed, Biological Students Association, the Falk Center for Molecular Therapeutics lab, and her sorority.  In addition to her role on the Board, Lauren loves to spend time reading, traveling, browsing YouTube, and exploring Chicago.

2012 Board

Ahsin Azim

Ahsin Azim started his Wildcat Welcome career serving as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2011, and now he is so excited to serve as the Director for Weinberg on the 2012 Board of Directors! He is currently a junior American Studies and English Writing – Creative Nonfiction double major. In addition to his role in Wildcat Welcome, Ahsin is the External Programming Co-Chair for the Global Engagement Summit, Campus Campaign Coordinator for Teach For America, Research Assistant at the American Bar Foundation, and member of the Bhangra Dance Team. The Chicago native enjoys writing, eating, visiting new places, and learning about different cultures. 

Aaron Praiss

Aaron Praiss served as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2011 before serving on the 2012 Board of Directors as the Director for the Bienen School of Music. Aaron was a violin performance and biological sciences double major in the Bienen School of Music and graduated from NU in June 2013; he was also involved in the Gateway Science Workshop Program as an Organic Chemistry Facilitator, the Bienen School of Music Student Advisory Board, and independent research in a Sensory and Developmental Neurobiology laboratory at the NU Feinberg School of Medicine. During his time on the Board, Aaron loved working closely with so many incredible students and faculty members at NU. Aaron encourages every student to keep a focus on academics but to also enjoy their time at NU and explore the many amazing opportunities available.

Breanne Boyd Breanne Boyd is so excited to be part of the amazing Board of Directors as the Director of the Transfer Student Experience after serving as a Transfer Peer Adviser in 2011. A Cincinnati native, Breanne is majoring in Political Science with minors in Business Institutions and Integrated Marketing Communications; she is hoping to pursue a career in public relations after graduation. In addition to her role on the Board, she is involved in Associated Student Government, Dance Marathon and Greek Life. Outside of Wildcat Welcome, Breanne loves to spend time baking cupcakes, running, and exploring Chicago!
Hayley Gleeson

Hayley Gleeson was a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2011, and then served as the Director for Parent and Family Experience on the 2012 Wildcat Welcome Board of Directors. Hayley graduated in June 2013 with majors in Psychology and Legal Studies and a minor in Global Health Studies. Hayley absolutely loved her time as a Board member; she learned so much about leadership, collaboration and community, and met some amazing people along the way! Her experience with Wildcat Welcome made her Purple Pride and love of Northwestern even stronger, and she is so proud to have spent four years as a part of this strong, transformative community.

Jonathan Gobrial Jonathan Gobrial began his Wildcat Welcome career as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and again in 2011. He is continuing his journey with Wildcat Welcome as the Director of Marketing and Recruitment for the 2012 Board of Directors. Jonathan is currently a junior, double majoring in Biological Anthropology and Science in Human Culture; he aspires to be part of Teach for America after finishing his years at Northwestern. Hailing from the warmth of Santa Monica, CA, he enjoys many water sports, is an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, and a sushi fanatic. Along with serving on the Board, Jonathan serves on the executive board of his fraternity, the productions crew for Dance Marathon, and works for SafeRide.
Kate Mattax Kate Mattax served as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2011 before serving on the 2012 Board of Directors as the Director for the School of Education and Social Policy. Kate was a Social Policy and Spanish major and graduated in 2013. Kate was also involved in Northwestern's philanthropic event, Dance Marathon, as the Community Relations Co-Chair and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. During Kate's time on the Board, she was able to learn about herself as an individual leader and the dynamics of a high-functioning group. She is remembered for her silly statements and advice such as: "People can't meet expectations they don't know you have." For her, being a member of the Board was so valuable because she was able to work with a group of incredibly talented, driven, passionate, hardworking individuals who truly care about Northwestern. Additionally, it showed her how much you can love an institution, how you can make a positive impact on every single new student, and how to to grow exponentially as a leader of positive, sustainable change at Northwestern. #dubdubluv(2012)
Parker Murphy

Parker Murphy is a junior Dance major in the School of Communication and is exploring a double major in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. He is thrilled to be taking on the role as the Director for School of Comm for Wildcat Welcome after two years as a Peer Adviser. Originally from Colorado, Parker loves anything involving the outdoors. On campus, he is an active member in New Movement Project, dances with Graffiti Dancers, and produces dance and theater shows.

Katie Radtke Katie Radtke is ecstatic to be serving her second year on the Board of Directors, acting as the Director of Staff Training and Dynamics , after serving as a Peer Adviser her freshman year.  Currently a junior, she is majoring in Spanish and receiving her teaching certificate in Secondary Education at Northwestern; she recently returned from study abroad in Barcelona to improve her Spanish language for her future career. A native of quaint Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Katie loves sunshine, NUMB, the Green Bay Packers, and, of course, Wildcat Welcome!
Elena Schneider

Elena Scneider is thrilled to return for her third year with Wildcat Welcome as the Director for the Medill School of Journalism. In both 2010 and 2011, she served as a Peer Adviser. As a junior, Elena is majoring in journalism and hopes to pursue political reporting after graduation. The North Carolina native loves all things Southern -- cheese grits, the Avett Brothers and clear blue skies. When she’s not dreaming of warmer weather, she’s usually drinking coffee at Peet’s or watching reruns of Friends with friends.

Kevin Wang

Kevin Wang served as a Peer Adviser in 2010 and 2011 and is thrilled to serve on the 2012 Wildcat Welcome Board of Directors as the Director for the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. Kevin is a junior studying Biomedical Engineering and is planning to go on to medical school after graduation. In addition to Wildcat Welcome, he serves as a one-on-one mentor at the YMCA and leads physics workshops as a GSW (Gateway Sciences Workshop) facilitator. Kevin hails from Indianapolis, IN and enjoys spending his free time longboarding, singing in the shower, and browsing Reddit.

2011 Board

Brian Chang Brian Chang served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Bienen School of Music Liaison after serving as a 2009 and 2010 Peer Adviser.
Lindsay Abbassian Lindsay Abbassian served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Medill School of Journalism Liaison after serving on the Board in the same capacity in 2010 and as a 2009 Peer Adviser. Lindsay studied within the Medill School of Journalism and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Austin Young Austin Young served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Chair for Programming after serving as a Peer Adviser in 2009 and 2010. Austin studied within the Weinberg College of Arts and Science and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Natalie Osterweil Natalie Osterweil served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Transfer Student Experience chair  after serving in the same capacity on the 2010 Board of Directors and as a 2009 Transfer Peer Adviser. Natalie studied within the McCormick School of Engineering and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Umang Jain Umang Jain served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Weinberg College of Arts and Science Liaison. Umang studied within Weinberg's HPME program, served as a 2010 Peer Adviser for the HPME Program, and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Valentina Zahran Valentina Zahran served as a 2009 Peer Adviser, a 2010 Peer Coordinator, and ended her Wildcat Welcome experience on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Parent and Family Experience chair. Valentina studied within the Weinberg College of Arts and Science and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Tyler Slayman Tyler Slayman graduated from Northwestern in June 2012 after studying within the Weinberg College of Arts and Science. He served as a 2009 and 2010 Peer Adviser before filling the role of Logistics chair on the 2011 Board of Directors.
Alli Finn Alli Finn served as a 2009 Peer Adviser, a 2010 Peer Coordinator, and ended her Wildcat Welcome experience on the 2011 Board of Directors as the School of Communication liaison. Alli studied Theatre within the School of Communication and graduated from Northwestern in June 2012.
Anant Johri Anant Johri graduated from Northwestern in June 2012 after studying within the School of Communication. He worked in many different capacities during his time with Wildcat Welcome including a 2009 Peer Adviser, a 2010 Peer Coordinator, and finally on the 2011 Board of Directors as the Marketing and Recruitment chair.
Katie Radtke Katie Radtke served on the 2011 Board of Directors as the first-ever chair for Staff Training and Dynamics after serving as a 2010 Peer Adviser. Katie went on to serve in the same capacity on the 2012 Board of Directors before graduating in June 2013. During her time at Northwestern, she studied within the Weinberg College of Arts and Science.
Taylor Hartstein Taylor Hartstein worked for Wildcat Welcome throughout his entire tenure at Northwestern. He first served as a 2009 Peer Adviser, followed by a 2010 Peer Coordinator, and ended on the 2011 Board of Directors as the School of Education and Social Policy Liaison. Taylor studied within SESP before graduating from Northwestern in June 2012.
Shannon Rosenauer Shannon Rosenauer served as the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Liaison on the 2011 Board of Directors after her roles as a 2009 Peer Adviser and a 2010 Peer Coordinator for Wildcat Welcome.
