About H/LSA

HLSA group photographHispanic/Latino Student Affairs (H/LSA) founded in 2000, is one of four departments within Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA). The other three departments are African American Student AffairsAsian/Asian American Student Affairs and the LGBT Resource Center.

H/LSA is housed in a 1920s Victorian building known as the Multicultural Center (MCC) located at 1936 Sheridan Road.

For the current 2013-2014 school year, Hispanic and Latino students comprise approximately ten percent (10%) of the entering class of undergraduate students at Northwestern. The Hispanic/Latino aspect of the H/LSA name was chosen in an attempt to encompass and embrace the student population we seek to serve. Although we realize that students may identify with a myriad of racial, ethnic, or cultural titles, we hope that they can call us a resource and home away from home regardless of how they self-identify.

The mission of Hispanic/Latino Student Affairs (H/LSA) is to provide services and programs that support the collegiate experience of Hispanic and Latino students. H/LSA seeks to meet the needs of our ever-changing student population through advising, outreach, referrals and collaborative initiatives. We strive to enhance the cultural, social, intellectual and professional development of students so that they may lead informed and successful lives.
