Procedure for Requesting Special Consideration, Housing Assignments.

Learning—and practicing—to live and work with others is an essential component of the Northwestern University learning experience. There is no better place to do this than in our residence halls.

A variety of medical illnesses, disabilities and/or psychological conditions may necessitate special consideration in the housing assignment process. To qualify for special consideration in the housing assignment process and/or to request release from the meal plan, new students (freshmen and transfer students) must submit their requests for housing accommodations, including the appropriate documentation, to the Office of Services for Students with Disailities by June 6, 2008*.

Students submitting requests will be notified via an email to their Northwestern email account by July 7, 2008 whether the Room and Board Accommodation Committee approved their request.

All of the information you need to submit a request, including contact information for the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities and lists of the required documentation for special consideration can be found here.

* Please do not submit the required documentation to the University Housing Office.

Room Reservation Deposits.

New undergraduate students apply for housing at Northwestern University as part of an integrated admission process.

If you are admitted to Northwestern, you will be asked to confirm your intent to enroll by paying a non-refundable $400 tuition deposit. After this deposit is received, you will then be asked to pay a second non-refundable $200 room reservation deposit if you requested and have been granted campus housing.

You may either return your $200 room reservation deposit in the envelope provided or pay it online. Our mailing address is:

Undergraduate Housing Office
Northwestern University
Scott Hall, Room 1
Evanston, Illinois 60208-1001

If you elect to mail in a check or money order, don't forget to include the completed address label that was sent to you with your room reservation deposit form. We will use that address label to send you information on how to access the housing application form. If you pay online, you do not have to mail us your address label.

Information regarding meal plans for the 2008-09 school year will be provided as soon as it becomes available, as will the opening and closing dates for our buildings. General information about Undergraduate Housing can be found on our website. Please keep in mind that information on the undergraduate housing website at the moment pertains primarily to the 2006-07 school year.
