Application Procedure

McManus Living and Learning Center

To apply for housing in McManus Living and Learning Center, complete the McManus Online Application.

Engelhart Hall Apartments

To apply for residency in the Engelhart Hall Apartments, or to obtain further information, please contact the Graduate Housing Department at 847-491-5127

If you do not have a NetID assigned yet, please contact your respective department prior to requesting an application.

Eligibility

Engelhart Hall and Seabury units are available to all graduate students. McManus Living and Learning Center units are available to Kellogg graduate students only. Applicants must be accepted for admission to or currently enrolled in their respective schools before a housing application will be accepted.

Notification

You will be notified of your apartment assignment via email. You must then confirm the assignment by submitting your $300 housing deposit to the University Housing Office. Once the deposit is received, you will be sent an email link to your online Terms and Conditions so that you can sign and submit it.

Room Assignment Process

Engelhart Hall Apartments

There is no deadline to apply for Engelhart, however, applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. The application may be obtained by contacting the Graduate Housing Department at 847-491-5127. Please note housing is not guaranteed and room assignments are determined according to availability.

McManus Living and Learning Center

Students who have submitted their tuition deposit to our admissions office indicating their intent to enroll, and who have also submitted their McManus Living and Learning Center applications by May 1st, will be randomly assigned a lottery number. Apartment assignments will be made according to the lottery numbers. Students who submit their applications after May 1st will be assigned apartments on a first-come, first-served basis. If we are unable to accommodate all the requests, a waiting list will be established and assignments will be made from the waiting list throughout the summer.

Apartment Types and Assignments

Engelhart Hall Apartments

One Bedroom Apartments: Couples without children, Families with one child (up to 3 persons)

  • Single Student
  • One Bedroom Single: Single Student
  • Two Bedroom Apartments: Families (up to 4 persons)
  • Twin-Studio Apartments: Single Student

McManus Living and Learning Center

  • Efficiency Studio: Single student
  • Twin-Studio Apartments with living room: Single student
  • Twin Studio: Single student
  • One Bedroom Apartments: Couples without children, Families with one child (up to 3 persons)
  • Single graduate student
  • Two Bedroom Family: Families with up to 4 persons

Once an assignment is made the student will receive a housing offer via e-mail. The housing offer will have the type of room being offered and instructions for sending the room reservation deposit, which must be received before the Terms and Conditions are created.

Deposit

You will be notified of your apartment assignment via e-mail. You must then confirm the assignment by submitting your $300 housing deposit to the University Housing Office by the date identified in the assignment e-mail. Please do not send a housing deposit unless you are offered housing. Once the deposit is received, you will be sent an email link to your online housing contract so that you can sign and submit it.

Contract Information/Renewal

Housing contracts are written for either 9 or 12 months, with an option to renew for the summer and/or a second nine months corresponding with the academic calendar. Current residents are given an option to renew leases in April, before assignments are offered to new students. It is the resident's responsibility to file a request for Terms and Conditions renewal. Terms and Conditions can begin at any point during the year, but  end on June 16th of each year. Contracts may be renewed for up to a 12-month period based on continued eligibility.

Please Note: Once you sign the Terms and Conditions you are obligated to pay a minimum of sixty days housing charges, even if you are unable to attend the University.

Terms and Conditions Termination:

Residents leaving the university are required to deliver written notification of their request to terminate their housing contract to the Graduate Housing Office. For residents not leaving the university due to health or academic reasons, existing contracts may not be terminated before the termination date shown on the contract. No apartment shall be considered vacated until a resident has removed all possessions, surrendered the unit's keys and checked out at the main office.

Residency Limitations

Occupancy is limited to eight years (96 months) from the original date of your admission to your program.
