Information for Faculty

classroom with students and professor

AccessibleNU is your ally in working with students with disabilities, for we are both committed to providing an accessible, supportive, and challenging environment for all students who attend the University. As a demonstration of this partnership, and since our students share with us how meaningful it is to them, we hope you will include a statement in your syllabus inviting students registered with AccessibleNU to self-identify. Making students more comfortable self-identifying also typically means they will notify you earlier.

Training

Overview of AccessibleNU's Faculty Pages

We created our AccessibleNU faculty pages to address the questions you frequently pose to us when working with students with disabilities. These include an overview of your rights & responsibilities and the rights & responsibilities of your students with disabilities, exam-proctoring procedures, other common accommodations such as note-takers (which includes the note-taker ad); physical accessibility considerations; recommendations for implementing elements of Universal Design for Learning in your course, and faculty-specific resource and FAQ pages. We will frequently update these pages to reflect your questions and input.

Please email AccessibleNU or call us directly at 847-467-5530 or if you have any questions about accommodation notifications you have received, concerns about a student registered with our office, or to get advice about if a student should consider registering with AccessibleNU.
