Inter-School Transfer

As you explore courses you may find an academic path that feels it is a better fit for you than the direction you expected to follow when you first arrived. You might begin to think about transferring to another school and choosing a new major. A good first step is to meet with your current academic adviser(s) to get expert advice. The process of switching schools within Northwestern is referred to as Inter-School Transfer or IST.

To initiate the formal Inter-School Transfer process, follow the directions on the Registrar’s Inter-School Transfer webpage. This page provides essential information about IST policies, deadlines, and procedures. An important part of the application process is obtaining approval from your proposed new school, and the Registrar’s page presents each school/college required protocol to initiate an Inter-School Transfer.
