Looking Back

Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro led the University through one of its most transformative and sustained periods of academic growth. He concluded his tenure on Sep. 12, 2022.

President Schapiro took office in 2009 as Northwestern’s 16th president and led Northwestern for more than a decade, witnessing the birth of new campus traditions, celebrating athletic achievements and honoring faculty’s research breakthroughs. During that time, Northwestern elevated its status as a premier University for research and teaching.
