Join OISS Advisors on Zoom on Wednesdays from 12pm-4pm to ask an international student advisor quick questions virtually. Please note that complicated cases and time-consuming issues will be referred to the student’s assigned advisor for a scheduled appointment. Students will be helped in the order in which they join the virtual call.

Coffee Talk is a welcoming space where attendees can support each other in navigating academic stress, practice English, overcome homesickness, adjust to life in the US, share and connect on international experiences, grow self-confidence, cultivate a sense of belonging on campus, and take a break and enjoy free coffee and snacks! Join us for an online OPT Workshop

OISS offers online workshops for F-1 international students interested in pursuing work authorization in the U.S. through Optional Practical Training (OPT). The Zoom workshop will cover OPT eligibility requirements, application timelines and application requirements, and more. All F-1 international students interested in applying for OPT are encouraged to attend.

It's tax season! Learn about your U.S. tax obligations as an international student!

The OISS provides many resources to help international students learn about and fulfill their U.S. tax obligations. Check out our taxes webpage for detailed information that will answer many questions you may have now. Be sure to attend an upcoming online  tax workshop or Sprintax webinar!

OISS has partnered with Sprintax Tax Preparation Services to provide discounted access codes for federal tax preparation and filing for Northwestern international students and scholars who were in the U.S. during the calendar year Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2022.  We anticipate sending the access codes via email by late February. International Peer Advisors (IPAs) play an invaluable role in providing a successful orientation program for new undergraduate international students. OISS is now accepting applications for 2023 IPAs. Click the links below to learn more about the IPA program, IPA responsibilities, and access the application form for the appropriate program. This is a great opportunity to connect with and provide essential support for new international students while gaining valuable experience to add to your resume.

Volunteer Opportunity: Family Ambassadors

Northwestern's Office of Student Affairs is now accepting applications for Family Ambassadors (FAs). FAs are a community of student volunteers dedicated to supporting families throughout their Northwestern experience. This is an excellent leadership opportunity and a great way for students to find community on campus. If you are interested in learning more or plan to apply to be a volunteer family ambassador, attend an upcoming info session.  The remaining Info Sessions will be held on Feb 10, 12 & 16.
