Our Community

At Northwestern, Fraternity Sorority students comprise approximately 18% of the campus community. With 16 Fraternities, 17 sororities and 1 co-ed organization - our community spans over 4 unique council communities, each with their own traditions, values and practices.

All of the recognized Fraternities and Sororities at Northwestern are affiliated with one of our four councils. The councils serve as the governing body for its member groups and are composed of student-leader representatives that are also affiliated with a fraternity or sorority within their member council. These councils oversee recruitment processes, programming, peer accountability, expectations and more for their constituent groups. At Northwestern, we recognize 4 councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the Panhellenic Association (PHA).

Contact information and member organizations can be found on each council's Individual page.

Interfraternity Council

Northwestern's Interfraternity Council (IFC) consists of 9 inter/nationally-recognized fraternities. For the past 150 years, IFC fraternities have enriched the lives of young men at Northwestern University through educational programs and activities. Today, hundreds men are members of IFC fraternities at Northwestern, sharing the bonds of brotherhood and community to build long-lasting bonds and unbreakable friendships.

Multicultural Greek Council

The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is a strong community that is constantly growing at Northwestern. The council is composed of culturally-based service-social organizations with Latinx, Asian, and Multicultural emphasis.  These organizations are dedicated to service (both on and off campus), social advocacy and cultural awareness, as well as the development of a more unified campus-wide support network. In addition, they strive for and maintain a standard of academic distinction. MGC offers several leadership opportunities for its members and helps build long-lasting relationships throughout the council. The council is home to 5 sororities, 3 fraternities and one co-ed organization.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC) at Northwestern University consists of seven of the "Divine Nine" historically African-American fraternities and sororities. Each of the NPHC organizations evolved during a period when African Americans were denied essential rights and privileges afforded to other college students. NPHC organizations maintain high positive standards for its member organizations and ensure the perpetuation of responsibility and privilege through engaging in service to the African-American community at NU and the community at large. NU is home to 7 of the 9 Divine Nine Organizations.

Panhellenic Association

The Northwestern Panhellenic Association (PHA) consists of 8 nationally-recognized chapters. Many chapters are housed on the south end of Northwestern's campus. All of the organizations have a long-standing (inter)national history and traditions as many of the Northwestern chapters are more than 100 years old. Women of all backgrounds and interests are members of PHA sororities. Panhellenic women are leaders and participants in campus organizations, serve the NU and Evanston communities, and excel in the classroom.
