What We Do

The Office of FGLI Initiatives partners with schools and units across the University in support of FGLI students and collaborates with colleagues to develop initiatives that fill gaps in support.
  • Policy changes – In conjunction with offices across the University, the Office of FGLI Initiatives advises in the development of inclusive and equitable policies to improve outcomes for FGLI students.
  • New programs and support – We collaborate with units to develop new programming and provide guidance on best practices in support of FGLI students.
  • Books for ‘Cats – In partnership with the schools, the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid, and the University Bookstore, the Books for ‘Cats program provides first-year students with high financial need (as determined by the financial aid office) the opportunity to borrow textbooks for a select group of courses at no cost to the student.
  • Laptops/Flights for International Students  – Teaming with the Office of International Students and Scholar Services and the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid, this program provides start-up grant eligible first-year Evanston undergraduate international students a means to access resources before arriving on campus for the first time. This program can be used to purchase flights and laptops to help ease eligible students' transition to Northwestern.
