Update on Recent CDC Guidance

Dear students, faculty and staff,

Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance on masking, testing and physical distancing. Local public health departments and the University are evaluating these recommendations. For now, Northwestern’s current guidelines on face coverings, testing and gatherings remain in place.

Masks are still required indoors in alignment with the guidelines that have been previously issued, regardless of vaccination status.

Individuals who are fully vaccinated do not need to wear a mask outdoors unless they are participating in a large outdoor gathering or event. If you are not fully vaccinated, you should continue to wear a mask outdoors if you are engaging with other people.

Also, as of today the state has entered the “Bridge Phase” of reopening plans. Guidance on expectations for gatherings and other activities during this phase is available here.

Thank you,

Luke Figora
